4 Things You Must Know Before Starting Your Business

Are you in that stage in your life where you are tired of working for someone else? Are you planning to start your own business? Or are you a part time freelancer or contractor planning to launch your own brand? Here are 5 things that you must know and do before launching your own business.

1. Have a plan

No matter how excited you are to go on your own, spend some time to carefully plan your business. Planning before startup is essential for your success. No matter how long it takes, whether 1 month or 1 year, dedicate some time to research your market and fully understand what you are planning to go into. If you encounter obstacles along the way, find solutions and adjust the plan. It is good to experience these problems now instead of when you are up and running.

2. Test your concept

Ask friends and family what they think of your ideas. If you can, hire a focus group to be able to see the strengths and weaknesses of your concept. Talk to people who are in the same line of business. Talk to potential customers. If you discover that your concept is not as popular as you think, change it. Be ready to be flexible with your ideas. Keep changing them until you find something that’s effective.

3. Understand your target market

It is crucial to know who your potential customers are. What do they like doing? Where do they hangout? Why would they like your products or services?  These are just some of the questions that you must know the answer to. What age group is your target market? How much are they willing to spend on a product or service such as yours? What will drive them to buy from you?

4. Establish funds

You need to have a steady flow of cash if you want to be your own boss. Not only do you need it to sustain your business, you need it to pay for permits and other legal documents, you need to pay staff salaries and benefits, you need to pay overhead costs and of course, you need to buy stocks or raw materials. Running out of cash just when your business is about to grow might push you to fail. You must have a ready source of cash in case you encounter a client with a huge order or if it’s necessary for your business to grow.

Take these points into consideration and you will surely move your business to the direction of success.
