I know how tough it can be to start a business while you are still working a 9-5 job. It’s not like you can just give up the day job and go full time. You have bills to pay and families to feed. Anything could happen and you could be homeless before you know what’s hit you. But that doesn’t help you much. You still need to do the work. You just need to be smart.
The only way you can build a successful business on the side is by dedicating time to it. Enough time to make it a success. Sure, you can take as long as you want, but that only means it’s going to be a lot longer before you can quit your job. If you want to be guaranteed the best chance of making it then take a look below and see how you can change your life to accommodate your business.
Get up much earlier
We all like to lie in our beds until the last possible minute. You aren’t the only one. But just think about all those people who are up at the crack of dawn working hard on their business while you lie sleeping in bed. Does that not motivate you? Do you not feel envious that they will be able to quit their jobs much quicker that you?
One year from now you’ll still be walking into your cubicle, while they are sunning themselves on a tropical island. Get up out your bed and start doing as much work as you can before you hit the day job. Use up all your creative energy before you waste it on something else.
Take work to lunch
You probably don’t get a huge lunch break. It doesn’t matter. If you have enough time to do anything then that’s what you should be doing. Not wasting time down at the café talking to your friends. Socializing can come after you are successful.
That’s something you have to drill into your head if this is going to work. Take a sandwich to work and remain at your desk. If you don’t want your boss to see you working on your own business you will need to think of something else. Work in an empty room.
Lots of time at night
When you get home at night you have to be prepared to work your guts out. It’s when you have the most time in the world. It doesn’t matter if you have a family to look after. You have to find a way. You have to make time. Obviously you will have to spend time with your family. Have dinner and put the kids to bed.
But once everything is settled you have to get to work. It’s going to be hard, but just think about all that time you will get to spend with them when you don’t need to go off to work every day. If you can only work a few hours every night you will have to make up for it on the weekends. Even spend your whole vacation time working non-stop. But you will make it. You will be a success.
